Prevention and Clearance of Neurotoxic Aggregates
Project Description:
Dementia affects over 55 million people worldwide, and by the year 2050, we expect this number to rise dramatically to over 150 million. Dementias include well-known conditions like Alzheimer’s Disease, which are not only challenging for those affected but also place a significant burden on healthcare systems and families. One key feature of Alzheimer’s Disease and related conditions, known as tauopathies, is the presence of abnormal tau proteins in the brain. Normally, tau proteins help stabilize the internal structure of our nerve cells. However, in tauopathies, these proteins misfold and clump together, spreading through the brain and disrupting normal function.
